Domaine de la Racauderie Vouvray Moelleux 2002

Member Review by duncan 906:

This bottle was part of a three bottle lot I bought from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/42221 for £17.50. Vouvray is an AOC created in 1936 at the eastern end of the Loire valley not far from Tours and the grape variety is chenin blanc known locally as pineau although small proportions of a grape called arbois are allowed but rarely used. There are four types of Vouvray ,sec,demi-sec,moelleux,and doux which roughly translates as dry, medium, sweet and even sweeter.Vouvray can also be sparkling or still.Domaine de la Racauderie is a 15 hectare estate owned by Jean-Michel Gautier which has been passed from father to son since 1669 and which makes all styles of Vouvray. My bottle is a sweet moelleux version the sweetness coming from harvesting the grapes very late in order to allow the development of a fungus called botrytis.I started my bottle the other evening with my supper of sausage rolls and salad and I enjoyed it very much.It is very sweet almost like honey or syrup. It is bursting with a pineapple or apricot style fruit and with a slight citrus aftertaste. It is far better than the Regis Cruchet Vouvray Moelleux I had recently and which also formed part of this lot.

I had the Vouvray Demi-sec 2010. My husband and I both loved it! I am also very sensitive to sulfites and didn't have any reactions to this wine.
