Great, refeshing Muscadet with vibrant minerality. Of course, this is perfect for oysters, but with its good round body, it's also great with light poultry or vegetable dishes. From a Practicing Organic estate.
Ollivier's 2008 Muscadet de Sevre et Maine Sur Lie Les Gras Moutons Cuvee Eden (from a rocky sector already well known through Claude Branger's routinely exceptional eponymous cuvee) is surprisingly demure in the nose, suggesting fresh lemon and sea breeze. But it comes onto the palate with bracing lashings of brine, lemon zest, grapefruit, and sour cherry, drawing saliva from beneath your jaw with palpable force, then finishing with an exuberant tartness and salinity that I find irresistible. Count on this for versatile delight over at least the next two years not, of course, that one should miss out on tasting it in its energetic youth.
