Domaine de la Noblaie Chinon Rouge les Chiens-Chiens 2015

Member Review by rckr1951:

Raspberry and cherry float lightly with dried florals, herbs and spice. With just a touch of extra body this easy to drink, well heeled and lengthy. Paul 89 points

Terrific, and the best cab franc I've ever had. Smoky, vegetable, and red fruit aromas combine nicely on the palate with a long, smoky finish. Terrific with grilled foods, and just damn nice. Medium body, nice texture in the mouth. Would definitely buy more.

There is a wild funk on the nose ... almost cheesy and dirty. I get more veggies than fruit through to the finish -- kinda green pepper. Had the 2004. Had it on its own, which was a mistake. It was begging to be paired with some food.

Not for wine wimps or California Fruit Bomb addicts. This is an earthy, funky wine. It smells like overripe plums (I guess that would be prunes) and tastes like smoke, tar and dirt.

It smells of blackberries, sandalwood and black olive. On the palate, we feel black fruits aromas and spices. Tannins are smooth and elegant, they offer a satisfying persistence.

Wine & Spirits ReviewRated 92Broad and full, this is driven by pungent stoniness, a deeply expressive minerality that saturates the waxy stone fruit flavors. It's gripping and focused, possessing the weight and authority of the red wines that are more typically grown on these soils, yet demonstrating chenin's inimitable character.Wine Tasting NotesStraightforward plum, cherry, strawberry and red currant are carried forward to quite respectable lengths. The acidity is in balance with the tannins and all the fruit, but while it keeps its place it also shows remarkable stamina. There is a vegetative element, with grass and bell pepper, but the kind that belongs rather than the kind that indicates under-ripe fruit. Behind all else, the result of a years aging in two to three year old barrels, you get whiffs of cocoa and vanilla, a nice taste of leather, not too much, and yet a perfect complement to this offering that is smooth indeed.
