Domaine de la Maurelle Gigondas Rhone 2000

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/25692 for £15.50.It is from a single vineyard in the Gigondas appellation in the southern Rhone valley which has been owned by the Daniel family since 1753.It is made from the usual southern Rhone grape varieties of 60% grenache 30% syrah and 10% mourverde and it has been aged in oak for 12 months .I took it with me when my sister invited me to dinner and I have to say it is a superb wine. The tannins are fairly soft and there is plenty of blackberry-like fruit there. The other two adjectives I would use are restrained and structured. This is definitely a quality product

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
