Domaine de la Cune Saumur-Champigny les 3 Jean 1999

Member Review by duncan 906:

I paid a mere £15.50 for four bottles of this wine www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/27125 The domaine was originally planted in the 17th century by the Abbot of Breton acting on instructions from Cardinal Richelieu. The 17 hectare domaine has been in the Mary family for three generations and is now run by the brothers Jean-Luc and Jean-Albert.Nine communes to the south=east of the town of Saumur are allowed to use this AOC for red wines made from the Cabernet Franc grape.I drank the first of my bottles yesterday with my supper of roast chicken and I have to report that I thought it a very nice wine indeed. It is very fruity [think raspberries.blackcurrants and plums] and yet it is mellow and not tannic at all.For the money it was an absolute bargain
