Domaine de la Charbonnière Maret Michel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Most Exciting Wine of The
Vintage
Anything with Perdrix in the name tends to attract my attention and the
wine itself proved very amenable, with a firm, elegant character - not as meaty
as some Châteauneuf, and can argue the better for it. Very
agreeably priced too.
(Tom Cave, BBR Cellar Plan Manager)

From the most northerly of the Charbonnière holdings, located in the
commune of Courthezon, the eponymous partridge has found its nest above soils
which include more sand and clay than some. The resulting wine has a real
aromatic charm and a palate which juxtaposes dried fruits, forest floor and
with notes of licorice, tar and very finely-wrought tannins.
(Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer)

A blend of 80% grenache, 10% syrah and 10% mourvedre. The color is a muddled garnet that currently lacks clarity. Not making an overt statement, this wine relies less on fruit and more on delicate spice flavors. Of medium weight, there is a core of p... Chuck Hayward. Vivid red. Fresh red berry and floral aromas are enlivened by Asian spices and minerals. Here's another 2008 Chateauneuf that acts like a pinot noir, offering sweet strawberry and raspberry flavors, supple texture and good spicy lift. Impressively pu... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. ($40) This is taut and pure, with a very direct beam of crushed kirsch, raspberry and pepper notes laced with floral, licorice and mineral hints. Stays mouthwatering and driven on the lengthy finish, with the minerality showing through nicely. Drink ... Wine Spectator. Bright red. High-pitched aromas of red berries, cinnamon and mace, enhanced by a suave floral quality and a hint of orange zest. Distinctly energetic and pure, accented by lively red fruit flavors and strong mineral spine. Refreshingly brisk on the f... Stephen Tanzers IWC. The 2008 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, is a solid wine that carries a soft, round and delicious character. Spice, raspberry and cherry fruit, mixed with subtle garrigue, show up ... Rhone Report, The.
