Deep purple-red color with with strong aromas of pencil lead shavings and graphite and hints of forest floor and elderberry. This is a dry medium bodied wine with lively acidity and medium tannins that are somewhat astringent. This wine tasted better the next day and decanting it would help as well. On the palate I found this wine was quite flavorful with pomegranate, stewed prunes, iodine, and damp earth showing through. The finish was not short nor long just somewhere in between. This is a red which is definitely more earthy and minerally than fruit forward. By itself it was quite unremarkable though once I added a nice juicy hamburger with Pt Reyes Blue cheese and some sweet potato fries this wine introduced its real self. 3/5
