Domaine de Fontavin Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2012

External Review by Vintners Cru:

Friendly and forward, with a solid core of crushed plum and fig fruit, backed by textbook grilled herb, sandalwood, tobacco and roasted vanilla bean notes. Supple and fresh through the medium-weight finish. Drink now through 2015. Wine Spectator , Nov. 15th, 2010, James Molesworth "Vivid red. High-pitched aromas of red berries, spicecake and minerals, with a suave undertone of smoky minerals. Vibrant and delineated, offering strawberry and raspberry flavors, strong minerality and a jolt of white pepper. There's a pinot-like touch to this wine that will make it very flexible with food." ST "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Tradition offers an exuberant display of sweet black cherries, roasted herbs, seaweed, licorice, and pepper. Dark ruby, fleshy, and full-bodied, this is a beauty that is already alluring and seductive. It is a blend of 85% Grenache and the rest Syrah from 40-year-old vines, most of it aged in cement tank and the Syrah component aged in smaller barrels and demi-muids. Drink it over the next decade." Wine Advocate , Issue #185 Oct 2009, Robert Parker

Ruby-red. A seductive bouquet displays vivid red berry, floral and mineral scents, along with pungent garrigue and Indian spice nuances. Impressively pure and precise on the palate, offering sweet strawberry and black raspberry flavors. Positively Burgundian, with building mineral and floral notes on the long, sappy finish. This is 75% grenache and 25% mourvedre. ST "With only five acres in Vacqueyras, this excellent estate has produced an outstanding example with its blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Mourvedre aged 15 months in tank. The wine is a big, muscular style 2007, but at the same time very seductive due to the exceptional levels of plum, fig, and black currant fruit intermixed with tobacco leaf, licorice, and earth. With plenty of spice to it, this dense, full wine cuts a broad, impressively powerful, yet pure feel across the palate. Drink it over the next 5-6 years."
