Domaine de Cristia Cuvee Renaissance Chateauneuf du Pape(2000)

Wine.com
June 2007
The sensational 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige/Cuvee Renaissance emerges from ten acres of old vines (80-100 years) that border the Rayas vineyard. Its opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a super nose of blackberry, kirsch liqueur, spice box, and mineral scents. Thick and full-bodied, with tremendous purity, a sense of elegance, and a layered, multidimensional finish, it is a breakthrough effort for Domaine de Cristia. -Wine Advocate

($23) Saturated medium ruby. Exotic, highly aromatic nose combines cassis, black pepper, mace and nutmeg. Dense and concentrated, with huge material to support the strong but sexy oak component. Notes of superripe berries and lead pencil. Supple and impressive. The tannins are substantial, but this wine boasts a far sweeter finish and more length than the estate's basic cuvee, a sample of which seemed rather dry on the back end.
