Ruby-red. Red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of anise, woodsmoke and dried lavender. Round and sweet on the palate, offering juicy red fruit flavors that put on weight with air. Finishes smooth and sappy, with resonating spiciness and very good persistence.

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre from 50- to 100-year-old vines, and is aged in a combination of cement tanks (for the Grenache) and small oak barrels (for the Syrah and Mourvedre). The wine possesses a forward, seductive bouquet of kirsch, black currants, licorice, incense, lead pencil shavings and garrigue. This full-bodied, opulent, lush, stylish Chateauneuf du Pape should drink beautifully for 10andndash;12 years.

Lush and mouthfilling, with a lightly chewy edge framing the dark plum, fig and blackberry fruit. Hoisin sauce and smoldering tobacco notes fill out the full-bodied finish, which cuts a deep trough.

90% grenache, 10% syrah from 20-60 year old vines grown in sandy soils. Fermented in concrete with no oak. This is a ripe, modern styled cuvée that is darkly colored where the powerful, concentrated grenache flavors come through. With a great deal of... Chuck Hayward. Winemaker's Notes:

100% Grenache from 50 year old vines. Beautiful bright garnet red. Intense nose showing good complexity. Aromas of black fruits and wild herbs prevail. Good attack on the palate. A fine wine which is elegant and well structured. Good volume and length based on fruity and spicy aromas. Pair with: grilled lamb with thyme, côte de boeuf, cheeses of the south, tarte tatin with onions.
