Domaine de Courcel Pommard Grand Clos des Épenots 2014

Member Review by winenut718:

Consumed over two nights. Stunning wine. Maybe the best 2004 I've had. Incredibly diverse nose that goes from shut down to expressive: pure black cherries, game, bramble, iron and rocks. The palate is a beast: extremely tannic with terrific tension with the fruit and purity always in the picture.

popped and poured, dark ruby color- the nose had dark redfruits and earth with a hint of smoke. The palate had a touch of rusticity with game, blood and iron notes around a dark red fruit frame and persistent tannins- still a touch heavy. not quite ready yet, still brooding. good now, better in 3-5 years I'd say.

Ripe and juicy, featuring black cherry, black currant and wet earth aromas and flavors. Tightens up, leaving a lasting impression of sweet fruit. Minerally aftertaste. Best from 2016 through 2030.

Good bright full red. Deep, nuanced aromas of red berries, spices and underbrush. Rich, vinous and deep, with sweet redcurrant fruit lifted by peppery spices. Shows terrific vivacity and precision in spite of its modest acidity (the pH here is 3.7, according to winemaker Yves Confuron), no doubt due to the whole-cluster fermentation. This generous, sensual wine finishes with fine but seriously gripping tannins.
