Winemaker's Notes:

Olivier Bernard has crafted two of the wines of the vintage: Domaine de<br/>Chevalier's Rouge and Blanc. By reducing his crop through rigorous green<br/>harvesting and later removing leaves to expose the grapes to the Indian<br/>summer's sun, he provided winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt with the perfect<br/>ingredient with which to work. Their red wine exhibits intoxicating Graves<br/>minerality and terroir with a ripe black fruit core. The very long finish<br/>suggests that a little patience will be required for this wine, but it<br/>undoubtedly rivals wines at four times its price.

This is something of a paradox for such an excellent wine, among the greatest in Bordeaux . Only a great terroir can produce a great wine... I often start out with these words when speaking about Domaine de Chevalier. They convey our fundamental philosophy, not only with regard to viticulture, but also the spirit that pervades the estate, and the men and women who work here. They improve their already considerable skills year after year on behalf of that which is most essential to a fine wine in my opinion — balance. Read less
