Domaine de Beaurenard Châteauneuf-du-Pape Boisrenard 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

"Offers a grippy feel, with taut licorice and tar notes stretching from start to finish. Ripe plum, raspberry and blackberry fruit flavors fill in the core, while hints of anise and juniper hang in the background. The finish reveals a bolt of graphite. Should age very nicely. Best from 2015 through 2030. 125 cases imported." --The Wine Spectator*Wine Spectator rated: 95 pts.*

Have only limited notes here ... wine was elegant with sour red fruit, hints of sharper fruit, almost spicy, finish of bitter nut. Dryish. Body medium minus. Acid medium.

Contains some exotic fruit-blueberry paste, boysenberry and raspberry confiture, and pastis-soaked currant-but its a brick house too, with Turkish coffee, bittersweet chocolate and lots of singed wood spice notes fanning out on the finish. A great spine allows the elements to echo through the finish without faltering. Best from 2015 through 2030. 750 cases made. -JM Inky purple. Pungent, expansive aromas of blackberry preserves and candied plum, with licorice and violet notes adding complexity. Showing a far darker and richer personality than the regular bottling but this wine is just as lively, offering weighty dark fruit flavors, a velvety texture and strong back-end cut. Tannins build with air and add grip to the long, spicy finish. I really like this wines blend of richness and energy. The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Boisrenard comes across as very modern in style at this stage of its life. Abundant notes of toasty new oak, li...

Vintage: 2010 12/12/2014

Parcels of old vines 60-100 years in age, planted in soils of great character and complexity, provide the grapes for this wine. They are picked when fully mature and meticulously sorted by hand to further enhance concentration. Yields are very low. These old parcels, in which different varieties are planted together, embody the symphony of 13 varieties, though Grenache predominates. The Boisrenard undergoes lengthy vatting and is aged in an entirely traditional way. Undergoes no filtration or fining, then 18 months ageing in oak barrels, and then additional time in bottle. The Wine Spectator scored this 2010 97 points saying "Contains some exotic fruit—blueberry paste, boysenberry and raspberry confiture, and pastis-soaked currant—but it's a brick house too, with Turkish coffee, bittersweet chocolate and lots of singed wood spice notes fanning out on the finish. A great spine allows the elements to echo through the finish without faltering. Best from 2015 through 2030." Extremely Limited!

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Boisrenard (60% Grenache and 40% other varietals from 60- to 100-year-old vines) reveals a hint of toasty vanillin from its aging in small oak, but I have been buying these wines for many years, and that characteris...
