Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Nuits St. Georges Premiere Cru Haut Pruliers 1996

Winemaker's Notes:

This parcel of 46 ares consists of a kind of terrace on a steep slope, in mid slope (275m). The shallow ground of brown-limestone, consists of gravel, clayey silts, on hard limestone. The forty year old vines are of sufficient age to produce balanced and concentrated grapes. This Nuits is thus a sensual and sharp wine, with a rather masculine personality...This wine will be appropriate for regional sauced dishes, such as ham with red wine sauce, big game like roasted wild boar. Its tannic character adapts to a vigorous and spiced cuisine.

Until 1978, Daniel sold his wine to burgundian negociants. At the end of the Seventies, his sons joined their father, bringing new parcels of vines. A new winery is built, with a larger cellar and a tasting room. It is at that time that the domaine developed direct sales in the cellar, gaining a great success with private customers. Since 1995, after Daniel retired his sons deal with the vines and the wines. Today, the domaine consists of eighteen hectares (45 acres) of vineyard, in eighteen different appellations, in six villages of the Côte des Nuits and the Hautes-Côtes : Prémeaux, Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne Romanée, Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot and Marey-les-Fussey.
