Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015

External Review:

The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape should rank alongside the greatest wine Charvin has made to date, the 2007. The dense purple-colored 2010 exhibits a beautiful, precise nose of licorice, black cherries, garrigue, dark raspberries and black currants. Full-bodied with fresh acids as well as a floral note, this potentially sensational Chateauneuf du Pape should drink well for 15 or more years.

This wine has a peppery, raisiny nose. It was dry and bitter at the end.

Good rich rose (cab franc?) with great red fruits. Fairly full bodied for a rose, some decent tannins, just a slightly hot finish.

Great bottle. It is worth the price...especially for a special night. Very smooth...top of my all-time list.

I had a friend tell me to buy Chateauneuf-du-pape and found this at Rosi's years ago. It was a lovely wine that has become an indulgence and a special bottle I buy for good friends!

My favorite Rhone. Nothing can beat this.

More backward and concentrated, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as dense, black raspberry, black currant, garrigue, licorice and lavender characteristics. Full-bodied with undeniable elegance, minerality and precision, it needs 2andndash;3 years of cellaring and should keep well for 15andndash;20.

A juicy and brambly style, with thick plum skin, raspberry and blackberry fruit at the core, lined with toasted spice, roasted apple wood and dark licorice snap notes. The dark fruit is offset nicely by a perfumy black tea note, and the finish is lined with a fine minerality, with nice grip for balance overall. There's lots of range to this, and it should age beautifully. Best from 2015 through 2030.

Full-bodied with undeniable elegance minerality and precision it needs 2-3 years of cellaring and should keep well for 15-20. This small 20-acre estate owned by the Charvin family is located in the northwest sector of the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. It has long been one of my favorites for the elegance purity and sensuality of the wines. 95+ Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Youthful purple. Deeply pitched aromas of raspberry, boysenberry, Indian spices and incense, plus a strong note of candied lavender. Lush, creamy red and blue fruit flavors are strikingly fresh, with a zesty mineral spine adding vivacity. Deep but surprisingly lithe, finishing with strong punch, clarity and spicy persistence.
