Domaine Chandon is one of the most recommended wineries in the Napa Valley, and the only one with its own 4-star restaurant. The winery established its reputation with sparkling wines, and in 1989, the winery began crafting still wines from the classic Champagne varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
I just opened this bottle (it is now Fall 2008) and I have to say that this wine is drinking a lot better than I imagined. Pinot Meunier is the quiet grape in the blend of grapes used in Champagne and it's known for being an early maturing and drinking young type of grape. This bottle is seven years old and it is fascinating to drink right now. There is a bit of an earthiness to it and layers of black fruit and what is that...? menthol? and cinnamon? cooking spices? The body on this wine is actually quite light as well.
Tasted at winery. Very elegant bubbly that is elevated just above the Étoile Brut and Rosé. Nuttiness is very present with bread and citrus (lemon). Later in the mouth I sense apricot. Here we have an impressive and long finish (seems spicy).
Crisp and smooth flavor toast and nuts. Very well developed with 5 years of botttle age a liitle citrus and apple too. this has the funny cap, no cork so there is no pop

Wine Enthusiast ReviewReleased at the same time as Chandon's 2000 Etoile, this is built along the same elegant, classic lines, but it's younger. fresher and, being a rose, quite a bit richer in fruit. In fact, it's extraordinarily delicious, a melange of sorbets ranging from raspberry, cherry and peach to lime and vanilla. The finish is crisp and clean. Should hang in there through the decade.Wine Tasting NotesIn keeping with the traditional rose winemaking method, we add a small amount of red wine (Pinot Noir) prior to tirage to create the distinctive salmon color with copper hues. The wine's aromas are rich and complex - floral notes with Santa Rosa plum, raspberry and nutmeg. These aromas follow through on the palate and are layered with candied ginger and pomegranate flavors, evolving into truffle, cocoa and earthy tones. The wine finishes with excellent length and richness that will stand up to a variety of foods.
