Domaine Chandon Champagne Blend California Riche NV

Winemaker's Notes:

Cuvee Riche was born of a winemaking accident some years ago when a winemaker made a mistake with the amount of sweet liqueur dosage he added to the wine, and hey presto the dessert bubbles was born.

Domaine Chandon:
Domaine Chandon is one of the most recommended wineries in the Napa Valley, and the only one with its own 4-star restaurant. The winery established its reputation with sparkling wines, and in 1989, the winery began crafting still wines from the classic Champagne varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.

Consistent with last note, still drinking well. Very good affordable sparkler, with a melon tinge and a touch of sweetness on the palate. Easy to drink.

A nice surprise. The color of cantaloupe melons, and this may have influenced my sense of melon on the palate. Not much nose. I enjoyed this immensely as a wine to sip for an aperitif without food. Didn't need any to make it enjoyable and fun.

Consistent with previous notes. Crisp with an impression of sweetness. Had with salmon with curried chutney sauce and coconut rice.

I'm not a huge fan of the overly tart and dry champagnes, so this wasn't my favorite.

This mostly Pinot Noir, which has a gold-pink color, is indeed extra dry. The quality of the fruit is not dampened by the extra sweetness, rather, it?s rich and zesty, with a hint of raspberry and pepper. Good acids, rich bubbles and if it?s a little rough, it cleanses the palate and prepares it for food.
