Domaine Chandon Brut Rosé California 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

Chandon Etoile Rose Sparkling In keeping with the traditional rose winemaking method, we add a small amount of red wine (Pinot Noir) prior to tirage to create the distinctive salmon color with copper hues. The wine's aromas are rich and complex - floral notes with Santa Rosa plum, raspberry and nutmeg. 085155000082

Domaine Chandon:
Domaine Chandon is one of the most recommended wineries in the Napa Valley, and the only one with its own 4-star restaurant. The winery established its reputation with sparkling wines, and in 1989, the winery began crafting still wines from the classic Champagne varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.

Lightly yeasty and toasty scents meld with notes of hazelnut and dried orchard fruits on the nose. In the mouth this is a bit coarse with an intense core of fruity apple, nectarine and citrus fruits. The finish is pretty short but offers a hint of marzipan to help add some contrast. 86pts

The color is pale and brown. The nose is fragrant, yet sour. The initial taste is bold, but is also smooth (if you can imagine this). The follow through is bitter and weak - no legs. The mouth coat is strong and leaves a sour taste in the rear of the throat. I believe that the wine was stored standing upright in the store for WAY too long, but I can only rate what I taste.

Nice balance, there is some but not too much oak or butter.

Deep red and black fruit on the nose. Quite tannic for a pinot noir and take a while to open up. Once it does, however, it comes off as extremely well structured with a wonderful velvety feel in the mouth and a nice medium length finish.

ACCOLADES 88 Wine Spectator September 3, 2008 87 Wine Enthusiast December 31, 2008 "Dollar for dollar and bubble for bubble, Chandon Brut Classic continues to be the most reliable widely distributed American bubbly, year after year. it is always clean, fresh and pleasant -- it won't disappoint." Red, White and Brut: Inaugural Bubblies For a toast to a new president, American sparkling wines are worthy of celebration. Wall Street Journal. January 9,2009 PHILOSOPHY In keeping with the style we established more than thirty years ago, Chandon has captured the expression of Californa's vineyards in Brut Classic. Made using méthode traditionnelle, this wine goes through second fermentation in the bottle and is made from the traditional Champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Our house signature style, Chandon Brut Classic consistently displays apple and pear flavors and aromas with a hint of spice that leads to a soft, dry finish. To ensure the continuity of style and quality that has made Chandon one of America's classic sparkling wines, our Brut Classic is blended with ten to twenty percent Reserve wines from prior harvests. TASTING NOTES Classic balance typifies this refreshingly soft, yet dry wine. The wine delivers complex apple and pear characteristics accented by citrus spice over notes of almond and caramel in the bouquet. When you taste Brut Classic, look for nutty flavors with hints of brioche that build to a refreshingly dry finish. FOOD AND WINE PAIRING Winemaker Tom Tiburzi recommends serving Chandon Brut Classic to refresh the palate when eating salty, creamy, or nutty foods such as Caesar salad, fried calamari, oysters, or fresh sashimi and sushi. Winemaker: Tom Tiburzi Appellation: California Aging Profile: Minimum of 12 months on the yeast

Chandon Brut is the pinnacle of the Chandon stable and good enough to rival some of it's French cousins. Stone fruit flavours with green apple crunchy acidity and a complex yet subtle yeast character.

Chandon Brut 1500ml wine is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with a mid to straw yellow colour. Aromas of lifted spice and fig with honey and floral notes are evident on the nose. This wine is made using the classic Methode Traditionnelle including aging for 15 to 18 months on yeast before disgorging. Chandon NV has a mellow, biscuit aroma with floral and honeyed notes. The front and middle palate is round and creamy and the flavour is long with a lively, Brut finish.
