Rating: 88/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. One of our usual favorites disappoints just a bit in this vintage with its developed style but is not as impressive as its past best. Its flavors offer a fair bit of complexity but also carry wisps of burnt paper, and its early bubbles on the palate are appropriately forceful. Even if it does not match up to its usual standards, Le Rêve still impresses for its well-handled layering.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
A touch coarse and earthy, but enough rich pear, honey and toasty notes pour through to keep it interesting. Ready now.
Smooth, rich and creamy, with layers of fig, vanilla, pear and hazelnut, gaining depth and complexity. Finishes with a touch of anise. Drink now through 2005.
Yeasty and breadlike, with a fine bead. Creamy and elegant, with citrus and pear flavors. Lots of finesse and complexity here; comes close to impersonating Champagne.
Beautifully focused and refined, with Gala apple and raspberry aromas and flavors that are crisp yet layered, with creamy lemon and lime notes and a finish that lingers with mineral and a hint of yeast. Drink now through 2012.
Appealing aromas of Gala apple, toasted almond and vanilla lead to focused, creamy Asian pear and spice flavors that finish with a vibrant crispness. Drink now through 2012.
A rich, complex, concentrated wine, with pretty black cherry, spice and creamy, toasty scents that fold together nicely. On the finish the flavors linger, giving it an added measure. Drink now through 2008.
