What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

92 points Wine Spectator: `Beautifully focused and refined with Gala apple and raspberry aromas and flavors that are crisp yet layered with creamy lemon and lime notes and a finish that lingers with mineral and a hint of yeast. Drink now through 2012.` (11/08) And according to Wine Enthusiast: `...dry and crisp and elegantly constructed with rich flavors of citrus fruits yeasty baked dough and vanilla. Drink now.`

Produced by the classic Champagne method, this is a superb sparkling wine blended from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes which shows ripe tropical and white fruit flavors in the elegant Taittinger style.

A very nice sparkling wine from California that has the requisite yeasty/bread aromas as well as nice ripe fruit. I believe this one has a tiny percentage of Pinot Blanc, that I could swear I was picking up on (although I think it was my imagination as my palate isn't that good).
All in all, a great value for sparkling.
