Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Berry Bros & Rudd review:<br/>Clean, bright and fresh in all departments, this Corton-Charlemagne from Bouchard is positively linear after the broad-based Meursaults but it has the typical 2009 quality of a fine rich finish, and sensational length.

Bouchard Père et Fils:
Contrary to many wine growing regions, one of the particularities of Burgundy is the complete lack of the mixing of different grape varieties. There are two main varieties in Burgundy : Pinot Noir for the red wines; Chardonnay for the white wines. The reputation of the Grands Vins fins de Bourgogne is based on two varieties alone : Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As early as 1866, Dr Jules Guyot i... Read more

The reputation of the Grands Vins fins de Bourgogne is based on two varieties alone : Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As early as 1866, Dr Jules Guyot in his book on viticulture of the centre north of France, wrote that: " the essence of the fine wines of the Côte d'Or, is the grape variety, the Pineau Noir or Noirien for the red wines; the Pineau Blanc or Chardenet for the white wines ". A very ripe nose of plum, cassis, earth and a hint of wet stone gives way to rich and rather supple medium-bodied flavors that possess an attractive fleshiness, all wrapped in a complex, long and mouth coating finish where the tannins are quite firm. 92-95 Points "(like the Chapelle, this is also made from fruit purchased from Damoy) Bright dark red with ruby tones. Sexy aromas of black fruits, spices, dried flowers, licorice, espresso and chocolate. Juicy, penetrating and high-pitched in the mouth, with lovely floral and mineral lift to the complex flavors of red and darker fruits, leather and pepper. In a very upright, firmly structured style, and not at all exotic. Prost uses more tight-grained Vosges oak for this cuvee, which makes for a longer, slower oxygenation during elevage."Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jan/Feb 11, Stephen Tanzer

Slightly cloudy following a batonnage in mid-May. Pungent aromas of lime oil, spearmint and minerals, plus suggestions of riper stone fruits. A cool, fresh and densely fruited nose of crushed citrus, green apple and mineral reduction gives way to seriously concentrated and overtly muscular flavors that possess a suave and silky mouth feel yet do not lack for an underlying reserve of power....
