Funky musty nose. Light and buttery with a tiny but of nuttiness and an overall nice complexity and balance.

Thick musty nose of straw, hay and limes. Very nice mouthfeel - emollient and rich. Some gentle barnyeard and straw flavors, with quince, lime and citrus fruits. The wine has a nice long finish.

Cassis, jam, and distinct earthy forest in the nose. Also vegetal notes and a little oak, toast, and spice. Bold and spicy on the palate, lots of red fruit, good earthy minerality. Full bodied and tannic with good balance, and more spice on the finish. Well structured and interesting.

Slightly better, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Felix reminded me of a high class Pomerol. Notes of mulberries, kirsch, figs, damp earth, forest floor and spice box are present in this round, gracious, generous, full-bodied effort. Enjoy it now and over the next 10-15 years. Opaque ruby. Wild, borderline feral and smoky on the nose, which displays scents of cherry, blackberry and sandalwood. Deeply pitched dark fruit flavors show a meaty quality and become sweeter with air. Finishes with serious punch and grip, the cherry and smoke notes echoing. Shows a lot of impressively deep fruit but this wines funky aspects wont be for everyone. ** SOLD OUT **

Dense, with an ample core of blackberry and braised fig fruit flavors, layered with roasted herb, humus, maduro tobacco and mineral notes that stretch out the finish. There's lots of character. Should cellar very well. Best from 2010 through 2023. - JM The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Felix has a dark plum/purple color and exhibits a nose of beef blood, incense, resin, blackberry, cassis, and again, plenty of truffle. This wine displays terrific intensity, medium to full body, and beautiful acidity and overall equilibrium. It is a blend of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and 5% grapes from other parts of the region. It is still young and broodingly backward, so give it 2-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 15 years.

Muscular for the vintage, with roasted game, coffee, bittersweet cocoa, dark currant preserve and tobacco notes. Grippy and dark on the finish, with a flicker of black tea in the background. Best from 2010 through 2020. - JM The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape is an outstanding blend of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and 5% the other red grapes of the appellation. With rich, attractive, earthy notes, and plenty of floral and spice box characteristics interwoven with dark, ripe red and black fruits, lavender, and oodles of Provencal typicity, it is full-bodied, fleshy, and already gorgeous to drink, but promises to evolve for at least a decade or more.

This powerful, well structured wine can be consumed within the first years but also has a very good aging potential.
