Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2010 Cornas Renaissance, essentially their “younger” vines (although they are 30-50 years old), exhibits an opaque purple color along with beautiful blueberry and blackberry fruit intertwined with notions of spring flowers as well as a chalky minerality. Full-bodied, with good acidity and terrific definition and freshness despite its massive size. This historic reference point for the wines of Cornas is one of the world’s most enviable small estates. Long run by Auguste Clape, who has slowly moved into retirement, turning the reins over to his talented son, Pierre-Marie, the quality of the Clape wines has been brilliant since I began visiting the estate over 30 years ago. I believe the 2009 and 2010 Cornas are the finest wines they have yet produced ... and that’s saying something.Robert Parker's Wine Advocate *less than a case in stock*

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

This has a wonderful nose filled with meat, floral mint, and green olive aromas all topped with a nice dash of cracked pepper. On entry this is filled with dusty tannins supporting stiff fruit that shows a nice blend of concentration and minerality but this does lack some acidity and finishes fairly quickly showing some heat and clumsy extraction on the finish. 85pts

Tasted in two components: #1, a blend of Tezier and Patou: intense red berry and floral scents and flavors, with a spicy overtone. Juicy and precise, finishing with excellent cut and sweetness. #2, from young vines in Reynard: much darker in pro... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Syrah wine from Rhone in France. 2010 Auguste Clape Cornas Renaissance 750ml

Tasted in components: #1, Petite Cote: fresh red berries and flowers, with intense spiciness. Very bright and lively, with racy cherry and raspberry flavors and strong finishing cut. #2, from Sabarotte: inky purple. Pungent blackberry and bitter... Stephen Tanzers IWC.
