The irrepressible Charles Rousseau had lots to say about his 99s, though he stopped short of saying they were better than his critically maligned 98s (though not by this critic). As many growers reported, Charles said that the grapes were extremely thick skinned and very ripe though he was quick to point out that the quality of the fruit was not roasted like it was in 90 and 97. Overall, he didn't say what his yields were, only that the overall yield for the domaine was less than it was in 96, a year in which the Rousseau wines were nothing less than brilliant, at least among the big 3.
