This smells stemmy and composty, all feral with iron and green pepper and even a touch of celery. Fairly nicely balanced, rich and broad with sufficient acidity to perk things up a touch on the palate. There’s some nice fruit here as well, clear with both mineral and very gentle vegetal tones accenting the blueberryish fruit on the mid-palate that becomes more obvious on the finish. The finish is a touch short and tough, though the blueberry fruit and violet nuances do show some aromatic lift. Hopefully time will help this because today it is a bit ordinary at best. 84pts

Deeply flushed in appearance, the wine presents an overt nose of non-fruit elements: leather, buffalo jerky and North African spices. Cranberries, red cherries, plums and potting soil chime in on the palate. The mouthfeel is soft but balanced with an easy-going juiciness. The excellent balance helps the flavors hold on through a medium-finish. 13% abv

Dark red-more-than-purple in the glass. Oaky and smokey nose. Very pleasant on the tip of the tongue. Slight fruty sweetness--plums. As the wine travels through the palate tannis pop up along with some tartness. Very nice lingering finish. I would suggest is that this is not a wine for long aging, although it is an emminantly drinkable wine right now. US$18.99 at Costco.

89 points: Wonderfully fragrant, with spiced currant, sweet aromatic wood, and a bit of camphor. The palate is bold, with anise and licorice over roasted cherry. The palate flavors dance around with achoholic energy. It has a good balance with fine tannins that support, and later coat the mouth.

Winemaker's Notes: Alcohol: 12.5 % Acidity: 5 g/l RS: 2.8 g/l Content: 0,75 l This is an excellent example of typical Austrian Grüner Veltliner: a dry and fresh white wine with influences of green apples, grapefruit and lemon. All this underlined by the spice of white pepper and ripe acidity

Great with meat and spice. Bold flavors.

Nose of ripe cassis withhints of candied cherry and currant. Some very slight eucalyptus and sweet oak vanilla. On the palate, it's rich and dry. Ripe cassis, currant, black plum and black cherry with some light cocoa and oak spice. Good acid balance to this so it should age and progress nicely with a few more years' aging. I think Franciscan always delivers a solid moderately priced, good value Napa cab. 86 pts.

Lightest in the glass from tasting, but dense in flavor. [From "Chateauneuf du Pape & Friends" at Bin 105, Lincoln NE, 15 September 2013.]

89-92 Points "(from vines on the Brochon side). 30% whole clusters. A high-toned red berry fruit nose that includes notes of raspberry and cranberry are liberally sprinkled with wet stone notes that introduce detailed, intense and lively middle weight flavors where more minerality can be found on the balanced, pure and harmonious finish. This is another really lovely villages and absolutely worth a look." Burghound.com, 1st Quarter, Issue 41, Allen Meadows 90 Points "The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles is elegant, sleek and refined. It shows wonderful nuance and detail in its aromas and flavors, not to mention considerable class. The vines here are 45 years old. The percentage of whole clusters was 30% here and new oak was 40%. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2029." Wine Advocate , #194 May 2011, Antonio Galloni

91-94 Points "(from an exceptionally well positioned 1 ha parcel situated directly beneath Les Petits Musigny that is combined with another less well located .35 ha parcel close to the main road). 40% whole clusters. This is quite densely fruited with floral and freshly turned earth aromas adding interest to the wild and medium-toned red berry fruit. The delicious, intense and serious broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration with ample amounts of dry extract that partially buffers the chewy and ripe tannins on the long and less austere than usual finish." Ausgewogener, fruchtiger, recht gehaltvoller und Spur lieblicher Weisswein. Gelb mit leichten Grünreflexen. Mittelkräftiges, recht komplexes Bouquet. Viel reife Fruchtnoten. Ergänzt wird die kräftige Aromatik durch etwas Würze (Gewürznelke, Vanille) und balsamischen Honigduft. In Gaumen leicht süsslicher Antrunk. Weiche, füllige und harmonische Struktur. Im Rückgeruch wiederum kräftige recht dominante Aromatik. Mittellanger Abgang.

92-94 Points "Subtle spice, earth and the classic game notes add a layering effect to the very fresh and ripe red currant and cassis aromas that give way to textured, intense and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors that are firm, powerful and palate staining on the hugely long finish. This is an imposing but not ponderous effort that should require 12 to 15 years to arrive at its peak." Burghound.com, 1st Quarter, Issue 41, Allen Meadows 92 Points "The 2009 Corton Le Clos du Roi (from 65-year-old vines) is elegant and subtle wine. Generous fruit radiates from the warm, open center. This is a totally classy wine that caresses the palate with silky tannins and impeccable grace. Here Vincent used a lower percentage of whole clusters (20%) than in a number of other wines, and employed 60% new oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029." 92-95 Points "(from vines by the Morey border, 50% of which were planted in 1902). 50% whole clusters. An intensely floral and spicy nose that is wonderfully elegant and admirably pure speaks of wet stone, red currant plus warm earth and sauvage hints that transfer to the muscular but precise and mineral-inflected big-bodied flavors that possess copious amounts of dry extract that buffers the very firm tannins and allowing for perfect balance on the mouth coating and linear finish. A classic Bonnes Mares that will require 15 to 20 years to arrive at its majority."

This is crammed with fruit, spice and structure, as braised fig, plum skin, cassis and anise notes wrestle with roasted apple wood, melted red licorice and tar for now. The embedded grip should carry the finish until this assimilates fully. Best from 2014 through 2024. 5,000 cases imported. JM - Wine Spectator Magazine 94 Points(65% grenache, 15% each of mourvedre and syrah, and the rest all the other varieties; aged in a combination of foudres and concrete): Bright ruby. Intense red fruit and potpourri aromas show excellent precision and a suave, spicy character. Licorice and lavender nuances add complexity to juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors, with the wine putting on weight in the glass. Finishes taut and youthfully tangy, with echoing licorice and spice notes. - Stephen Tanzer 93 Points** Only 9 in Stock **
