Year in and year out, Dom Pérignon remains a standout among prestige cuvée champagnes. The 1990 vintage is sheer elegance and class; a complex, full-bodied beauty that's still a baby. If you have the patience, save this stunner. It will develop even further.
A classic, this wine is meant for aging but very good now. Perfect for any celebration, really. Very elegant with toast and earth on the nose and deep fruit flavor. 55% Chardonnay grapes, 45% Pinot Noir grapes.
Bright yellow gold color. Moderately full-bodied. Highly extracted. Outstanding smoky, honeyed aromas. Plush mouthfeel with flavors that expand on the mid-palate. Extremely drinkable now, though the acids are lively and full through the finish. This is in no danger of fading.
With a tight flow of bubbles and toasty Golden Delicious aromas, it's another high-quality sparkler from this consistent producer. The tart citrus flavors and crisp acidity are clean and fresh now, but will also age well.
The Champagne named after the monk who may have invented Champagne. Combines rich flavors and great complexity in a superior age-worthy Champagne.
Toasty, earthy aromas and an expanding mousse make this an unusually assertive Champagne. Creamy in texture, ripe and fruity in flavor, it's distinctive but not for everyone. Best after 1998. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
With respect to the 1990 Champagnes, three were absolutely splendid - youthful, and with a powerful, structured richness allied to exceptional finesse and elegance. The profoundly rich 1990 Dom Pérignon... is a creamy textured, fuller style of Dom Pérignon that loses none of its elegance in spite of its flavor authority. It will improve for 5-10 years, and appears capable of surpassing the fabulous 1985 and 1982.
On The Nose: This wine is full of life, with a fresh nose that dances through a spiral of aromas, blending hints of angelica, dried flowers, pineapple, coconut, cinnamon, cocoa and tobacco. In The Mouth: With a fullness in the mouth, its earthy, smoky, pearly complexity rises to the surface, underscored by the vibrant warmth of peppery spice. The sensation of intensity develops and melts into a deep, rounded heart, with a fruity, exotic maturity and a slight touch of aniseed. This sensation, almost unsettling, is even more pronounced in the finish, while the notes of spice, still present, remain discreet, with toasted, iodine flavors.
