Dom Carneros Pinot Noir 2006
Domaine Carneros was established in 1987, a joint venture between Champagne Taittinger and Kobrand Corporation - one of the foremost players in the U.S wine industry. This impressive venture was a fulfilment of Claude Taittinger's dream after he visited the Carneros region and realised its potential to produce world class sparkling and still Pinot Noir wines. All the wines from Domaine Carneros are made from 100% Carneros fruit. When founding Domaine Carneros, the intent was to focus specifically on sparkling wines. However the Pinot Noir fruit produced on the Domaine Carneros estate vineyards was of such high quality that a still wine was produced. 1992 saw the inaugural vintage of the highly acclaimed Famous Gate Pinot Noir. The Domaine Carneros Famous Gate Pinot Noir is a red which benefits greatly from essential, Pinot Noir-friendly conditions of the Carneros region: sunshine, cooling fog and afternoon wind-a balanced triad that coaxes distinction from the wines of the region. As a result the Famous Gate Pinot Noir is both richly textured and elegantly structured, factors that provide for immediate enjoyment as well as graceful maturation. This wine is filled with blackberry, cherry, smoke, tea and baking spice, and so is a natural accompaniment to a wide variety of classic cuisine from rack of lamb, grilled quail and braised short ribs to seared tuna or the cheese course.

Cola nut baked cherry pastry, herb, oak and earth all contribute to the complexity on the nose. This is a touch light but it uses that to its advantage keeping the fresh herb and floral edge wild cherry fruit bright and agile in the mouth. There’s a lovely sapidity to this in the mouth that leads to a cherry pit and mineral laced finish that sees some nice tannins appearing on the finale. 89pts
A little pepper, bramble with cherry fruit on the nose followed by raspberries and blackberries. Earthy, smoky, spicy on the palate. Full bodied, classic burgundian style and could age for over 10 years. Smooth, velvety and wonderful...especially as I watched the sunset over the vines at the Domaine Carneros estate!
Bing cherry vanilla on the nose with an underlying spiciness. More structure than the Avant Garde Pinot Noir that I also tasted on my Domaine Carneros visit. Overall spicy and smoky, cedar like qualities.
aromas of red cherry, pepper and strawberry. Strawberry on the palate as well as a dusty earthiness and touches of chocolate, very light, fruit forward and simple finish.

This bottling has been getting steadily richer and better over the years and has now reached the point where itrsquo;s an authentic Carneros beauty. The rsquo;06 is a Pinot Noir to drink now, to savor its raspberry and cherry freshness, crispness and silky texture.
Smooth, ripe, moderately rich and polished, with a pretty core of black cherry, plum and anise, turning plush and detailed on the finish, where mineral and leather nuances show up.
An attractive, medium to dark ruby-colored Pinot Noir, Domaine Carneros's 1997 exhibits a smoky, spice, cherry/strawberry-scented nose, medium body, and admirable purity. While not the most complex style of Pinot Noir, it is tasty and smooth. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
Floral, anise and crushed berry aromas are intense, supple and balanced, built around raspberry, wild berry and hints of strawberry. Ends with an elegant minerally edge. Drink now through 2013.
Well-proportioned, with full-bodied plum, wild berry, spice and mineral notes that are structured, complex and long on the finish. Drink now through 2014.
