Dolcetto d'Alba "Sorano" DOC Bruno Giacosa Neive Piemont 2008
"Warm and chewy, this red exhibits cedar, sandalwood, tobacco and leather accents enhancing the core of cherry and raspberry. As this plays out on the palate, the wine turns more supple and vibrant, building to the long, expansive finish...96" WS 1/13 "So floral and beautiful with roses and lilacs. Hints of plums and strawberries. Full-bodied, with ultra fine tannins and a subtle yet intense finish of hazelnut and dark fruits. Goes on for ages...95" JamesSuckling.com 07/12 "Medium reddish-amber. Very spicy aromas of red berries, cherry, rose petal and menthol, plus a whiff of darker blueberry. Dense, sweet and bright, with bright acidity and a strong floral element providing left. Smooth in the middle, with more mid-palate stuffing to support its serious tongue-dusting tannins than the Asili. Built for a slow and graceful evolution in bottle...93." IWC 10/11
Had this the other day with some Lobster Bisque. Garnet red color with a bit of Brown. Some under-ripe red fruit, Herbs and flowers - earthy - minerals, and a bit of must. Rusty Stevedore???Smooth but Dry and tannic. Not familiar enough with Dolcettos, but after this one, will seek more out.
Not a lot of character
was in good form this night. I recall it showing a lot of restraint when I first received my cases. That has blown over to reveal a smoother and slightly sweeter Dolcetto than in the past vintages of this bottle. It reminded me more of a Dolcetto Di Dogliani, which is hardly a bad thing. This bottle showed less structure but much more pleasing blackberry fruit. The acidity stood up well against the antipasti. I would highly recommend this bottle for highly enjoyable current drinking.
A dull dark purple/violet with interesting ruby reflection, full bodied to the eye. Knockout nose, so strong that the glass had to be left for 30 mins. Characteristic nose of cherries and vanilla, very clean and with just a hint of spices and pepper. Full out attack on the palate, medium body, good acidity and balance with a mid length finish of berries and a touch of plum. Smooth with balanced tannins. Decant for a minimum of 1 hour.
Light with fruity flavors
The last bottle from my original case, this was bitter-sweet because the 2005 Bruno Giacosa Dolcetto has long been my favorite Dolcetto. Deep, dark purple color. Floral nose backed with blackberry, fall leaves and a bit of citrus rind. On the palate a mix of blackberry jam with a sweet vanilla mid-palate and a cranberry finish that really keeps it interesting. Fresh and lively, however the acidity is beginning to take over this bottle. I believe this will continue to decline from here, which is why I opened my last one... that being said, I enjoyed it immensely. A great bottle of Dolcetto.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90The estates 2006 Dolcetto dAlba Falletto is made from the same vineyard in Serralunga that is the source of Giacosas Barolos. It is a rich Dolcetto jam-packed with vibrant, shimmering fruit supported by notable structure. With air, licorice and menthol nuances emerge adding further complexity. This is one of the very rare cases with Dolcetto where I am tempted to say that a few additional months of aging will help the wine come together even more. Anticipated maturity: 2008 - 2011.Wine Tasting NotesDeep purple in color with a rich, fruity bouquet. It offers ripe blackberry, cherry and licorice flavors, velvety tannins and a lingering spicy finish. To be enjoyed young with medium-aged cheese, pot roast, polenta with sausage, and game meats.
