What to Expect

Barbaresco is a wine that shares much with its close neighbor Barolo. Both are made with the Nebbiolo grape and from nearly contiguous plots of vines in Piedmont. The slightly warmer climate of Barbaresco, and resulting earlier harvest, makes these wines a touch lighter and less complex than Barolo, if more elegant and earlier maturing. They share much the same flavor profile with their siblings though tend to be less intense.

Winemakers Notes

Compared to the other more fruit forward examples, this single-vineyard winecaptures the intrinsic quality of the Santo Stefano di Perno site: the nosedisplays a most refined, haunting, smoky, violet and raspberry character, whilethe palate is a delicious weave of silky tannins and generous juicy fruit, courtesy of the great vintage. Excellent with pasta and meat starters.Sumptuous drinking now till 2013.

Editorial Reviews

A little weedy and spicy on the nose with clay and forest floor nuances. There is an exotic citrus tone on the nose but overall a very loamy soil tone dominates. In the mouth this is packed with rich plum and cherry fruit, crisp tannins that lend a nice edge of austerity, and tones of peach pit and spice on the moderate finish. Very good and well done. 89pts

This is fantastic Dolcetto that balances approachability with the great structure of traditional wine-making. There is an intriguing geranium note to the nose that mingles deliciously with juicy, dark fruits.

Berry Bros & Rudd review: Dolcetto, along with Barbera and Nebbiolo, is responsible for some ofPiedmont's more 'serious' wines. However being the thirdstring of any self-respecting winery, the earliest to ripen and to harvest,it's often relegated to the lesser sites. Hallelujah! then to find asingle-vineyard example, providing stature as well as just fruit.(David Berry Green, BBR Buyer)
