This superb estate covers 95 acres planted with 75% Semillon, 23% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% of the often overlooked Muscadelle. Soils are red-toned clay along with parcels of gravel over limestone. Picking is done, often over several weeks, by successive passes or tris, which are essential to obtain berries with the right degree of noble rot. After multiple pressings in a vertical basket press and a cold settling to remove the lees or deposits, the juice is fermented in all-new barrels. Aging occurs over 18 months. The 2003 Coutet is an outstanding example of Barsac which offers a multidimensional profile and supreme elegance. Robert Parker 93.

It is against my better judgment to taste the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes at such an early age, as I find they typically require at least 12 months to reveal the definition/delineation so essential in these creamy, creme brulee, and honeysuck... Bright yellow-gold. Sexy aromas of orange liqueur and spices. Sweet round and pure with a lush texture verging on unctuous. And yet this is wonderfully aromatic and light on its feet. Very ripe and very complex in the mouth with harmonious acids framing the flavors of orange oil peach and spicy oak. Finishes very long ripe and seamless with lingering notes of oaky vanilla and spice. This has been a knockout since the outset. Stephen Tanzers IWC.
