Dingac Plavac Mali 2005

External Review by Astor Wines & Spirits:

From the area of Dingac, on Croatia's Peljesac peninsula near Dubrovnik. This is a tasty red wine made from the Plavac Mali grape variety. This is a rich version, full of violets, rose petals and blackberry fruit with nice, dark tannins on the finish. Great with lamb chops.

Dingač is a wine region and also a winery on the Pelješac Peninsula on the Dalmatian Coast on the southern tip of Croatia. The red-only wines are produced from Plavac Mali (which translates to “little blue”), genetically the same grape as American Zinfandel, and can only be labeled as Dingač if grown in that specific vineyard area. The vineyard is on a steep hillside of the peninsula, with a dramatic drop off overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The mascot for the winery is the donkey, since for a long time it was impossible for vehicles to drive along the steep hillside. The wines are characterized by lush, dark fruit, rose aromatics and a warm, spicy finish.  Read less
