Dievole Nero d'Avola Sicilia IGT Pinocchio 2009

Member Review by drdebs:

Great under $10 pizza wine with lots of blackberry and black cherry fruit, low tannins, and a slightly sweet aftertaste. Nice, simple, drinkable. Good with spicy sausage and pepperoni.

Not bad. Aroma reminds me of a port. Very fruity red, a touch of sweetness. Grapey wine typical of a warmer climate, notes of pomegranate syrup, red fruits, a touch of citrus on the pleasant finish.

To be honest, there ARE much better Neros out there. But in a pinch, this will definitely do. Has the typical wild spiciness intertwined with red berries note. I am hesitant to say this but I feel its true, it maybe flawed in the sense that it tastes a little processed, maybe a little chemical machinery residue...Pair it with cheese or any other solid protein and you can say bye-bye to that flaw.

For US$8.99 this is a steal, has some very nice dirt and vegetable happening. I like the strong acidity and tannins up front, has a rustic imbalanced feel but still very likeable in spite of it.. Not much of a finish.. Would recommend with heavier meat dishes and strong cheeses
