Dievole Chianti Classico 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

90% sangiovese, 10% complimentary red grape varieties Rather explosive on the nose with superbly focused aromas of mineral, dried herbs, and smoky nuances all layered over a base of slightly jammy wild strawberry and lingonberry fruit. Perhaps a touch soft on entry, this then firms up with a fine astringent streak running through the cherry and strawberry fruited palate. In the mouth the fruit tannins built up showing great structure and compelling complexity that lingers through the long finish. This could use some more definition on the palate, which may come with time, but is already very good. 90pts

Big stemmy tones on the nose and violet stems lending a rustic if floral quality here. There’s a touch of oak and a hint of mint as well, accenting the small black fruit aromatics. Very smooth in the mouth and quite voluptuous, this is a mouthful of dark if slightly anonymous fruit. The tannins stick out a bit dry and woody with notes of graphite and plum skin adding some detail through the finish, which shows flashes of black cherry fruit. 84pts

Great buy for the price. Soft red fruit, great acid and considerable tannin. Perfect for food or a cool summer night.

Tuscany, ItalyDievole Vendemmia is a beautiful expression of the famous Chianti Classico appellation of Tuscany from a classic vintage. With a rich history dating to the year 1090, Dievole is considered among the top producers in Tuscany. Vendemmia Chianti Classico is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% other native Tuscan grapes, hand-harvested from all 16 of Dievole's vineyards.Dievole Vendemmia Chianti Classico is deep ruby red in color with a fruity nose of dark berries, ginger, white pepper and spice. Medium-full in body with moderate acidity and lean tannins, this red offers flavors of black cherry, blackberry, chocolate, and smoke, with well integrated sweet oak. Aged for 12 months in 80% oak casks and 20% French and American oak barriques. It combines power and elegance, and is nicely balanced to enjoy now or to cellar for 7-8 years. The finish is rich, long and silky.Enjoy Dievole Vendemmia Chianti Classico with veal, pasta, osso bucco, and aged cheeses.
