Diamond Oaks Pinot Noir Carneros 2007

Member Review by glpease:

Opens with a beautiful nose of black cherry, dark berries, hints of saddle leather, oak. Broad first taste, and swirling reveals more of the cherry notes in the initial impression. Very engaging, surprisingly so for a wine at this price point. Lingering finish of warm spices, vanillin, and gentle tannins. Very nicely structured, and enjoyable. Most of all, this is a delicious wine for a great price. It's not a Burgundy, and doesn't pretend to be. It expresses Carneros Pinot Noir quite remarkably, and is as good as wines I've tasted from the appellation for over twice the price. I'll definitely be back for more. Drink over the next 2-3 years. It's got plenty of life left, but I wouldn't push it too far.

Nestled in the foothills above the Napa Valley, Diamond Oaks Winery is an exceptional place to articulate our winemaking craft. Our guests will delight in the panoramic views of the Napa Valley where rolling hills form a picturesque mosaic of vineyards. We invite you to relax and enjoy your lunch in our shaded picnic grounds hidden amongst the oak trees. Let the gentle Napa Valley breeze wed the bouquet of our unique wines with your culinary indulgence. Since 1977, the family has acquired 550 acres of estate vineyards in four premier Sonoma and Napa appellations - Napa Valley, Chalk Hill, Carneros, and Alexander Valley. Each of these picture-perfect vineyards was years in the making. Among the family's 550-acres are 330-acres of cool and windswept Carneros vineyard, including a large percentage dedicated to classic Dijon and Bordeaux clones. The release of a new wine from these vines comes, not in response to market forces, but from the fact of perfect readiness. After years of careful attention to viticultural detail, we are proud to release a collection of Chardonnays defined by remarkable distinction. Dinesh acquired a 52-acre wine country retreat located near the town of Calistoga in the upper Napa Valley. In 1982, he purchased another vineyard property that included a prohibition era winery located in Sonoma County's bucolic Alexander Valley. Shortly thereafter, he added another 92-acres in the Chalk Hill district, followed by the purchase of 330-acres in Carneros in 1994. The purchase of vineyard land was only the beginning. To produce the finest grapes required a tremendous commitment of time and resources. Each newly acquired vineyard site was the perfect marriage between clonal selection and the terroir. Throughout this developmental stage, contracts for fruit harvested from the family's vineyards remain in great demand by a who's-who list of Napa Valley vintners. Read less

The 2007 Diamond Oak Pinot Noir surprises the pallette, with the depth and breadth of fruit it presents. Offering a full friuted initial burst followed by a generous coating of the mid pallette, the finish displays polished red fruit and vanilla flavors that linger nicely, thanks to the wines maturing in 1/3 new French Oak for 18 months. HIghly recommended.

Wine Tasting NotesThe cold Carneros climate has long been known for producing Pinot Noir of extraordinary quality. This wine begins with enticing aromas of cherry and spice leading to flavors of raspberries and strawberries with cream accentuated by the slightest hint of cedar. This is a satisfying and well balanced wine.
