Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace Napa Valley 2013

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Diamond Creek is one of the most iconic names in Napa Valley wines. In 1968 Al Brounstein discovered that Diamond Mountain was an extraordinarily good place to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. He defined three vineyard locations by their soil and topography and started producing single vineyard Cabs that absolutely blew everyone's mind. His first release was 40 years ago and the wines are still produced in extremely limited quantities that are snapped up by anyone who can get their hands on them. Red Rock Terrace is a warm microclimate; 7 acres of north facing vineyard. The red tinted soil is high in iron content. The wine from Red Rock Terrace is the most accessible and earliest drinkable. The winemaker describes Red Rock Terrace Cab as "having velvety tannins, rich and well balanced, medium dark ruby color with cherry, mint and black currant flavors." James Suckling just scored this 97 points saying "Aromas of blackberry, blueberry and warm stone. Full body, very layered. Perfectly fine tannins. Round and dense texture yet perfectly balanced. A pretty and joyous young wine. 537 cases made. Enjoy tasting but better in four or five years." Extremely Limited!!

Established in 1997, Diamond Creek Estate is an award winning family owned and operated vineyard and olive grove. Diamond Creek Estate is situated on the northern slopes of Mittagong, around 120 kms south of Sydney, in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales. The property for many years was dairy country, enjoys rich basalt soil, northern sun and although at an altitude of 680 metres, it has an unique topography, which leaves it relatively immune from frost. This creates an ideal microclimate for cultivating premium quality, cool climate wine grapes and the finest olives for extra virgin olive oil. The vineyard occupies around 15 acres and a similar area is dedicated to olive trees. The vines are subject to intensive management for improvement, hand pruned and leaf-plucked as required. They are personally tended, cropped for optimised yields to produce premium quality cool climate wine grapes. Diamond Creek Estate Wines are produced only from estate grown grapes. The region, although the newest recognized geographical indication, is fast being acknowledged as a premium cool climate area and this is consistent with our objective to produce first class wines that will compete with any in Australia and overseas.
