The 2002 Ramitello Rosso (made from 80% Prugnolo and 20% Aglianico) is a successful effort from a challenging vintage. More tannic, rustic, and dense, without the charm and finesse of its less expensive sibling, it is a gutsy, savory wine displaying plenty of meaty, herbaceous black cherry, and new saddle leather characteristics.

WA 92pts - Winemaker Notes - This cru is made mainly from a selection of the best Montepulciano and Aglianico grapes grown in the Ramitello vineyard of Campomarino. Full, mellow and velvety wine; with a perfect blend of flavors such as plum, undergrowth and hints of leather and liquorice, deep ruby red in colour with violet reflections. Ideal with rich dishes, especially white and red meats, game and ripe cheeses.

Firm tannin builds a tight frame around the lush cherry flavor and cedar spice in this montepulciano-aglianico blend. Chewy and dense, it needs the fat of a ribeye to absorb that tannin.

A juicy red, with blackberry and a hint of vanilla. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Drink now.

The 2008 Ramitello, a blend of 80% Montepulciano and 20% Aglianico, boasts fabulous clarity and freshness, with layers of vibrant dark cherries and plums that meld together with notable grace. Smoke, tar, menthol and licorice develop in the glass, giving the wine even more dimensions of expression. This is a terrific effort from Di Majo Norante. Anticipated maturity: 2010ndash;2013.
