Deutz Rose Cuvee William Deutz Champagne Blend Wine 1999

Winemaker's Notes:

"Vibrant and focused, with patisserie apple and pear, currant, nut and candied orange zest flavors, all accented by a spicy thread of anise, clove, ground ginger and nutmeg notes that linger on the finish...92" WS 12/11 "Bright gold. Intense, highly aromatic bouquet of dried pear, honey, gingerbread and smoky minerals, with notes of brioche and candied fig gaining strength in the glass. Fleshy, palate-staining orchard and citrus fruit flavors show outstanding clarity and power, with chalk and spice nuances adding lift and bite. The floral and brioche qualities linger on the long, sappy and penetrating finish. Showing very well right now but I've no doubt that this Champagne will continue to age gracefully...90" IWC 12/12 "The 1999 Brut Cuvee William Deutz offers up ripe, tropical fruit, sweet spices, butterscotch and toastiness in a big, extroverted style. The wine comes across as rather rich and dense, but there is just enough minerality to provide a measure of balance and freshness...90" WA 12/09

Roses, chalk, sweet herbs and beet root all emerge on the nose with a waxy element to the emerging fruit that recalls pomegranate and vanilla. On entry this is tight and hugely mineral with a fine inner mouth perfume of flowers and red fruits but across the palate it’s still a wall of minerality with a hint of tannin that tightens up the finish. This is rather strictly structured and very tightly wound but shows excellent promise in its aromatics and sneaky length on the finish. 92pts

Ever so slightly tinged with strawberries, but with a toasted biscuit aroma as well. Some sweetness here to offset the fresh acidity, complex notes of cherries and strawberries, and even a slight tannic finish make this a well balanced delicious wine.

Beautiful nose with hints of cherry pips and rose petals. Cherry blossom flavors in the mouth, this wine is very very nice and has a smooth richness.

The estate's 1999 Rose Cuvee William Deutz is an intense powerful wine packed with super-ripe, candied fruit. This is a surprisingly intense Rose, but ultimately the wine comes across as somewhat monolithic and lacking the elegance of the house's fin... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. Bright, copper-tinged pink. Ripe red berries and tangerine on the nose, with notes of anise and wilted rose adding complexity. Energetic, palate-coating red fruit flavors are complemented by smoky minerals, a note of marzipan and a late kick of blood... Stephen Tanzers IWC.
