Descendientes de Jose Palacios Petalos 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"One of my sure values, I thought the 2011 Pétalos could not be surpassed so I opened a bottle next to the 2012 Pétalos del Bierzo, and I was wrong. The 2012 is extremely aromatic, with flowery aromas of violets, lilies and roses, really fresh, with notes of red fruit (acid strawberries), no traces of oak whatsoever, subtle, really Burgundian with hints of blood oranges, denoting freshness. The medium-bodied palate is extremely balanced, elegant, round, with volume and incredible freshness. For a young, entry-level wine there is incredible complexity, developing notes of fennel and aromatic herbs, all of it very harmonious and subtle. For Ricardo there is a change to a cycle of Atlantic vintages (2012, 2013 and 2014 so far), but 2012 was a special vintage, shorter and dried, but at the same time fresh. This could very well be the best Pétalos ever, and I cannot recommend enough. 310,000 bottles of this prodigious wine were produced, showing you can do quantity and quality at the same time. Bravo!..93" WA 01/15

The nose was beautiful with lush pink floral notes, ripe peach and a spritz of minerals. On the palate, it was remarkably fresh and vibrant with hints of young strawberries and inner floral notes which lasted through the long and refreshing mineral-laden finish.

/ Lovely floral and fruity aromas of peaches, apples and apricots; loads of flavor; sweet but crisp; smooth and refreshing. Not too sweet.

Bierzo, SpainDescendientes de J. Palacios Petalos is a gorgeous red wine gem from the Bierzo region, perched in the northwest corner of Spain. The legend of Spanish winemaker Alvaro Palacios continues to grow! His latest project features another rising star--the obscure Menca grape. Here ancient Menca vineyards emerge from the steepest of hillsides, their roots deeply set into unique, mineral-laden soils. Under the skilled hands of Palacios and his cousin, Ricardo Perez Palacios, the forgotten black grape (believed by some to be a cousin of Cabernet Franc) has achieved new heights. The 60- to 100-year-old vines yield less than one ton per acre, resulting in a most concentrated, unique expression of this variety and of the Bierzo terroir. Ricardo Perez implements organic and biodynamic practices. In reviewing this 2012 vintage of Descendientes de J. Palacios Petalos, the world's leading wine critics are in agreement: this wine is a winner! Wine Spectator rated it 90 points and named it among its Smart Buys. Josh Raynolds for Steve Tanzer scored it 91 points. Luis Gutierrez for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate rated it 93 points! "For a young, entry-level wine there is incredible complexity, developing notes of fennel and aromatic herbs, all of it very harmonious and subtle. This could very well be the best Ptalos ever, and I cannot recommend enough." Descendientes de J. Palacios Petalos is dark purple-red in color with full body and bright acidity. The nose offers fragrant aromas of blackberries, black cherries, licorice, spice and violets. The palate is rich and velvety with dark berries, mineral notes and well integrated oak. Aged for a few weeks in new French oak barriques followed by 6-10 months in 2nd and 3rd passage barrels. The finish is long and pleasing.Enjoy Descendientes de J. Palacios Petalos with steak, roast pork, BBQ ribs, grilled vegetables and aged cheeses.

It's sweet with ripe flavors of apple and peach, making it delightful as an aperitif or can be enjoyed with desserts like custard, fruit tarts and ice cream.

/ Very elegant in style with an aroma of blackberries, cranberries and chocolate. The mouth finds ripe and concentrated fruit overlaying a complex wine with a velvety texture. Long finish. Now through 2016.

PETALO Il Vino dell’Amore, the “wine of love,” adds an irresistibly romantic sparkle to any occasion. Produced by the Bottega family, this delicately sweet sparkling wine is crafted from Moscato grapes grown in northeast Italy’s Colli Euganei region, nestled between two fabled cities of love, Verona and Venice. Wild roses, like the one depicted on this bottle, grow among the Moscato vines in Colli Euganei and impart a pretty floral aroma to the grapes. This scent of roses subtly perfumes the wine, together with fragrant notes of peach and apple. PETALO is beautifully balanced on the palate, with fresh fruit flavors and fine, persistent bubbles. Whether the occasion is formal or impromptu, PETALO Il Vino dell’Amore is the perfect way to celebrate with family and friends. Production Area Colli Euganei, Veneto, Italy Grape Varieties 100% Moscato Giallo Vinification Grapes are hand-harvested and softly pressed in the winery. The sparkling wine is created in the Italian Charmat method, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks and a short secondary fermentation in sealed tanks for 30 days. The wine is then promptly bottled and released. The platinum bottle protects the wine by any source of light, preserving its aroma and freshness. Color Brilliant gold with a fine, persistent perlage Bouquet Pronounced scent of roses, with hints of apricot and peach Taste Pleasant and sweet with notes of candied apple and sweet peach. Lovely, persistent bubbles with a long lasting finish. Alcohol 6.5% Serving Suggestions An excellent choice for any celebration or occasion! Pairs well with lighter fare and a variety of desserts including custards, fruit tarts and chocolate desserts. Best enjoyed with the ones you love!
