Deltetto Roero Arneis 'San Michele' Piedmont 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

*92 Points - Steven Spurrier, Decanter Magazine, October Issue 2016* Antonio Deltetto has 15 hectares of vineyard in the Roero, the gently hilly region on the northern bank of the Tanaro. The soil is sandier in the Roero, and as a result the wines are more aromatic and less structured than those in the Langhe hills on the south bank. Deltetto’s style has evolved over the last 18 years and it good to see that his reds have more flesh, and his whites better balance and texture than they did in the early 1990s. The grapes come from the 30 year old San Michele vineyard and were picked early September. The grapes underwent a short, cold maceration in order to extract more flavour and then 30%of the must was fermented in new Allier oak barriques and 70% in stainless steel. The final blend was put together in spring before bottling. Soft and floral, this 100% Arneis wine has attractive notes of vanilla, apple, exotic fruit on the nose. Fresh, clean and elegant on the palate, it has good length with a zingy, floral finish. Drink now and over the next two years. "From a single vineyard planted in 1975, 30% fermented and aged in new French oak, 70% in cement and stainless Steel, ths has more depth and florality than a typical Arneis. A lovely, lively and expressive wine." 92 Points - Steven Spurrier, Decanter Magazine, October Issue 2016
