Founded by Gasparé Indelicato in 1924, Delicato Family Vineyards goal has always been to grow the finest possible grapes, and then use those grapes to create premium wines at affordable prices. Nearly 85 years later, Gasparé's original vision continues with the third generation of Indelicato family members. Nowhere is this more evident in the fact that Delicato has been named US Wine Producer of the Year an unprecedented three times at the International Wine and Spirits Competition along with countless individual awards for its wines. Affordably priced and created with intense character, Delicato wines deliver incredible value far beyond their price point. Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. Now, we cannot honestly say that we expect all that much from an $11.00 Merlot, but this bottling surprises by being fruity and focused with a dash of sweet oak accenting its themes of ripe cherries. It is clean as can be and very smooth on the palate, and, if it makes no claims to depth or complexity, it is a thoroughly likeable wine that gets thumbs up for value.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
