Delicato Family Vineyards Delicato Shiraz Bota Box 2008

Member Review by lolazaza:

Lots of blackberry fruit. Beautiful purple color. Peppery on the top. Smooth tannin. Balanced acid. Just a hint of sweet on the tip of the tongue in this otherwise perfectly dry wine. Not the most complex shiraz, but it doesn't have to be for this price. The few flavors it has are crisp, delicious, and well defined. In fact, I gave it an extra half glass just for the quality/price ratio. Simple, tasty, great everyday-with-dinner type table wine.

On the nose, jammy black fruit, particularly black grapes, shines out from under oak and nut accents. Medium-full on the palate, with chewy plum and blackberry fruit, and an undercurrent of herb that continues on through the finish. A perennial good-value wine.

Like the Merlot, this is varietally correct, in this case balancing blackberry and white pepper flavors. Supple tannins make it go down smooth and easy, without a second thought.

The grapes for this impressive Aussie-style Shiraz, from Lodi and Clarksburg, are ripe; the palate has rich flavors of cherries, black raspberries, blueberries and plums. Feels succulent, with a smooth texture and a long, sweetish finish, but it's perfectly dry. At this price, you can't go wrong.

Our 2008 Shiraz exhibits layered aromas of blueberry, toasted oak and vanilla. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine shows ripe fruit flavors of blueberry and cherry, smooth, lush tannins and a lingering, juicy finish.Delicato Shiraz pairs perfectly with fennel sausage and white bean soup, braised pork roast, and soy glazed grilled salmon

About as jammy as a $8 wine can dare to get, this simple, irresistible shiraz has a lush core of deep blueberry fruit that doesn't draw away from its sunny disposition. For any picnic with a grill.
