Delectus Cabernet Sauvignon Sacrashe Vineyard(2001)

In 1979 the original three owners (Sacri, Craig and Sherwin) took the first few letters of their last names and created "Sacrashe" Vineyard. It is situated high above Auberge du Soleil in the eastern Rutherford appellation at 750-800 feet elevation. The vineyard is hidden behind groves of century old oaks and clusters of manzanita brush. The growing conditions are tough due to rocks and tufa (solidified volcanic ash), limiting the vines' vigor and crop yields (1.8 tons per acre), but offering explosive flavors and concentration. The Sacrashe Vineyard is named for the three original owners; Sacri, Craig and Sherwin. The recently established Kathryn Hall Winery now owns half of the original vineyard and exercises their option to purchase fifty percent of the remaining fruit. The parcel now used by Delectus represents the last remaining block from the original owners. A miniscule 1.8 tons per acre is cropped here from vineyards of volcanic tufa "moon dust."
