Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. IWC 88 (6/2007): Yellow-gold. Leesy, smoky peach and pear on the nose, with hints of tarragon and toffee (about 15% of the grapes here were botrytized). Medium-bodied and sweet, with ripe orchard fruit flavors and soft acidity. A light baking spice note comes up on the finish. Dehlinger thinks that this is in its prime and notes that "most California chardonnay is best in its first five years.
