Dehlinger Cabernet Sauvignon Russian River Valley Estate Bottled 2001

Member Review by Mike Pobega:

Medium dark color. The nose has some red currant and black cherry cola. Palate is very 'European' if you know what I meant. :)Some dirt and leather mixed in with some red and blacks fruits of black cherry and currants. Decent balance and mouth feel. A nice finish. This evolved nicely as the afternoon pogressed. Just having the Ruston La Maestra the other day I can't say I enjoyed this as much. Sure, there's not much to fault with it but it comes down to a preference thing. Not mine in this case.

We are currently initiating a vineyard redevelopment on several of our vineyard blocks. In-house Vineyard Manager Marty Hedlund has been over-seeing the 45 acres of vines since 1988. Hedlund works with the vineyard crew to ensure that each area of the vineyard is appropriatedly pruned, managed, and thinned to bring out the potential of each peice of soil. The entire vineyard has been retrained to a "lyre"-shaped split-canopy, vertical shoot-positioned trellis system which allows for superior light penetration to the fruiting zone and systematic hand care. I was given a bottle as a gift...had never tried a Dehlinger wine. Was I pleasantly surprised! Served with a powerful, spicy pasta dish, and it balanced the meal perfectly. I was only sorry that I had one bottle.

Bright ruby-red. Black raspberry, cassis, mocha and nutty oak on the nose. Concentrated and nicely sweet, with juicy dark berry flavors and very firm backbone. A bit clenched but seems unusually successful for this bottling. Finishes with substantial... Stephen Tanzer. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2001 Dehlinger Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
