Deer Run Winery is located in Geneseo, New York, on the western side of Conesus Lake and about 25 miles south of Rochester. The winery was founded by George and Joan Kuyon in 2002. In 2001, the first steps in establishing a vineyard were taken with the planting of vines on two hillside acres. The building, which houses our tasting room, banquet room and wine production areas, was completed in 2003. When the doors opened to the public on November 13th, we offered five varieties of wine. The winery, in its sixth year, has seen many changes. Under Scott Kuyon's direction, the vineyard has expanded to five acres; we've added a second tank room, another storage area and now produce nineteen varieties of wine, including many award winning selections. The winery offers social and educational events throughout the year and encourages the public to come to these events. In 2010, we are establishing a monthly Sip and Stitch program for local knitting and needle enthusiasts who would like to get together to share projects, tips and skills...while sipping a glass of wine, of course. These are scheduled for the 3rd Tuesday every month between 6-9 pm. We are planning a wine appreciation class, a class for home winemakers (subject to be decided); another riotous Mystery Game program in March; Wegmans will be here for a wine and cheese tasting in May and we are working on a couple musical evenings during the summer. Our annual Vintner's Dinner will take place the first Saturday in November. Each year a guest chef prepares a sumptuous multi-course menu designed to showcase our wines. These are just a few of the things we are planning for the year. We hope you will check our "Upcoming Events" page frequently for program details. Also, you can "Sign Up" on our home page to receive email notifications directly. Lastly, let us extend a thank you to those customers who have discovered our wines and repeatedly come back for more. If you haven't visited us, we hope you will come by for a tasting, tour our gift shop or participate in one of our special activities. If you can't come in, you will find our wines in many liquor stores in the Rochester and Buffalo area...we have a listing on our home page under "where to buy our wines." Read less

2007 vintage, medium bodied, medium-purple color similar to a Merlot, light aroma similar to a Pinot Noir, sour cherries and a bit of oak, lingering finish like a sour ball candy, not bad.
