Editorial Reviews for Deep Purple Zinfandel
Only 13.9% as per the label, promising. A rather subdued nose of really dusty earth, a touch reduced/rubbery, lightly red fruited, raspberry bubblegum and pencil eraser with a nice touch of tarragon stems and vanilla. A bit sweet up front, nice kind of rough and tumble Zinfandel with slightly brambly black raspberry liquor fruit, a bit of spice, a bit of earth and a hint of vanilla that lead to the pleasantly fruit and nicely fresh finish. Nicely expressed fruit without a huge winemaking imprint. Nice zesty finish with earth and spice notes and a lightly mineral edge. Bring on the ribs! 87pts
Some fruit. Reminds me of heart shaped runts. Smells like goodness. RASPBERRY! Took me a few minutes, but I got the scent! A little floral in the mouth. Some good acid. Not bad.
this definitely lives up to its name as it is both deep and extremely purple. peppery, raspberry creme fraiche. Probably one of the juiciest fruit bombs i have ever had. It tastes like those raspberry creme-savers mixed with the raspberry fruit bars (fruit roll-ups) from the 80's.
Complex musty nose, 'only' 13.9% alcohol. Very rich, with great mouthfeel. Fruit boarding on licorice, which has flavors of green pepper on the finish.
Pretty nice fruitbomb for the money.
This is a 2007 Zinfandel From Deep Purple Wines in Santa Rosa, California made with juice sourced from the Lodi region. Typically, I could care less about the label because it really doesn't tell you anything about the wine inside the bottle. This bottle is no different, I just love the artwork becasue I'm a quasi-hippie-throwback. Once you pour the wine, you notice a nice deep garnet color. It's not so dark and dense that you can't see through the edges but it gets much more solid near the center of the glass. A rich, earth smell of moss undercut with blackberry rises out of the glass to meet your nose. Upon first taste, you realize that you've just been lied to. Your nose says one thing but on the palate it is something not quite what you're expecting. There is no assault of tannins like some dry reds but the taste itself is lighter than expected. Predominently blackberry in taste, it isn't overly full and cloying like some fruity wines can be. Even though it is fruity, it is not sweet and the taste doesn't linger on the palate. It is really nicely balanced between fruit and dry. The best part about this wine may very well be the price. It should be able to be found at most retailers for under $13 which in my mind, makes this an appropriately priced wine.
Very fruity. Smells and tastes of very ripe beautiful strawberries with a few raspberries mixed in.
A hedonistic fruit bomb! scents of blackberry, black cherry, and plum with a touch of black pepper and clove. Jammy fruit from entry through mid palate, finishing with wild berries and a dusting of cocoa. Lodi, California Aged in French and American Barrels Alc: 13.6%
