Editorial Reviews for Decoy Zinfandel Napa Valley
Subtle on the nose with a nice blend of earth, peppery spice, oak and briar. Moderately light on the palate with a round, slightly viscous yet seamless mouth feel. The fruit is decidedly red here with gentle vanilla and spice accents that turn a bit chocolaty on the back end, where it gains a light touch of herb. The finish turns more focused with the coffee-toned wood becoming obvious, though this remains balanced and elegant with a fine sense of restraint. Old school Claret-style Zin. 88pts
deep layers of red and black berry fruit, oak and vanilla subtleties, candied fruit on the palate with a spicy finish.
A bit funky on the nose with hints of bright red berries. Extremely soft in the mouth with some flecks of cocoa plant. A lot going on here with the alternating acidity and juiciness. I love the satiny feel!
Vanilla, blackberry, and cherry in the nose, with a decent balance of acids and tannins in the mouth - very smooth. Didn't find it to be that interesting, but very drinkable.
enjoyed this sweet, "vanillary" wine.
A lighter side to Zinfandel. I feel as though its effort for fresher flavors battles a bit with the intensity of the fruit. There is a great acid balance, but also a candy-like (berry Lifesavers, or those hard candies your grandma had in the bowl on the coffee table) finish I couldn't get past. Might be better with food.
Something almost medicinally minty about this, but has a basic fruity taste. Maybe when paired with some food that artificial-type taste would fall further in the background.

Winemaker's Notes - This enticing Sonoma County wine highlights a bright red-fruit and spice expression of Zinfandel. The aromas are ripe and appealing, offering layers of strawberry jam, raspberry and sweet vanilla, as well as hints of chocolate-covered cherries and white pepper. On the palate, the entry is full and balanced with lovely cranberry notes supported by the subtle influence of fine oak.
