Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Harvest Notes: The 2016 growing season began with generous winter rains, followed by a spring and summer marked by moderate temperatures and abundant sunshine. Like several recent vintages, the 2016 harvest came early, delivering exquisite quality grapes. After the modest size crop of 2015, 2016 saw a welcome return to average yields. Overall, the 2016 whites show an ideal combination of lovely richness and excellent natural acidity, while the reds are lush and complex, with beautiful color and concentration. Comments from the Winemaker: Displaying the lushness and balance that define great Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon, this inviting wine features layers of blackberry and black cherry, along with notes of mocha, star anise and spearmint. On the palate, the juicy, bright fruit flavors are framed by rich, refined tannins that carry the wine to a satisfying finish. Varietal Content: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon 8% Merlot 2% Petit Verdot 1% Petite Sirah 1% Cabernet Franc Winemaking: 90% French oak, 10% American oak 40% New, 60% Neutral Alcohol: 13.9% TA: 0.59 g/100ml pH: 3.68

Wine has enchanted poets for centuries, and for good reason: like poetry, good wine can be an emotional experience, lifting the spirit and delighting the senses as it satisfies the soul. At Duck Walk Vineyards, our award-winning wines are quite literally dreams come true. It was the dream of our founder, Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos, that helped create the winemaking industry on Long Island in the early 1980’s. In 1994 he and his son Alexander founded Duck Walk Vineyards. The Normandy Chateau-style building in Water Mill, a true Hamptons landmark, became home to what has quickly evolved into one of the most well-known names in Long Island wine. Duck Walk has two locations – the flagship winery is located in Southampton, New York. In 2007 we have added a new location on the North Fork of Long Island. Surrounded by 30 beautiful acres of Sauvignon Blanc grape vines, Duck Walk North is an ideal location to taste Duck Walk’s renowned wines while visiting Long Island’s famous Wine Trail. Both tasting rooms are beautifully designed and accommodate large parties and everyone who would like to taste our award winning wines! Today Duck Walk Vineyards encompasses 140 scenic acres. We produce some 35,000 cases of wine a year, and our wines have been repeatedly recognized for excellence in national competitions. From our Vidal Ice Wine made with grapes actually frozen on the vine, to our Blueberry Port crafted from wild Maine blueberries, to our unique Pinot Meunier, we strive to create wines that are distinctive and exceptional. But at heart we are still a family with a personal touch in every aspect of our business. Read less

Vintage: 2015 09/10/2018

Harvest Notes: In Sonoma County, a warm, dry spring resulted in an early budbreak, while an extended flowering period brought a return to normal yields after three years of abundant crops. With berry weights down, the grapes offered great concentration, while retaining excellent acidity. We had one of our earliest harvests in the past decade, but a light rain in mid-September nourished the vines and provided welcome additional hangtime. Overall, the quality of the fruit was exceptional, with our white wines showing both richness and complexity, and our red grapes displaying a fine balance between elegance and intensity, with gorgeous dark fruit flavors. Comments from the Winemaker: From its deep, inviting color to its enticing aromas of blackberry, currant and cocoa, this wine showcases what we love about great Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate, the lush fruit flavors are framed by rich tannins and hints of sweet oak and spice. Varietal Content: 89% Cabernet Sauvignon 9% Merlot 1% Petite Sirah 1% Petit Verdot Alcohol: 13.9% TA: 0.60 g/100 ml pH: 3.62 ** Only 3 in Stock **

Vintage: 2014 08/23/2016

2014 Harvest Notes: After getting off to a relatively early start, sunny skies and slightly above average temperatures made for a very consistent and speedy Sonoma County harvest. Yields were just a touch above average, and the quality was excellent across all varietals. Our final pick of pristine, perfectly ripe fruit came into our new winemaking facility on October 17th. Overall, 2014 delivered the third phenomenal vintage in a row, with exceptional color and concentration, and delicious aromas and flavors. Comments from the Winemaker: From its deep ruby and violet hue to its enticing fruit-forward aromas of blackberry, currant and black cherry, this wine showcases what we love about great Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. On the palate, the lush fruit is balanced by smooth, rich tannins and lovely layers of spice, cocoa and hints of sweet and toasty French oak. Varietal Content: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Merlot Cooperage: 10 Months - 100% French Oak - 40% New, 60% Neutral Alcohol: 13.9% pH: 3.67 TA: 0.59 g/L
