Decero Malbec Remolinos Vineyard Agrelo Mendoza 2013

Member Review by chriscage:

Muddy Cranberry coloration, with blackness against light and reddish hues around the rim....semi opaque. Aromas that are of heavy leather, tobacco, deep rooted spice, slight booze notes until it gets a little air, soil, Earth, and a charred oaky smoke aroma that lingers throughout the experience. Flavors follow suit with heavy leather, tobacco leaf, dark and ripe berry, herbal spice and Earthy roots like licorice and perhaps Sarsaparilla. The mouthfeel, this is a highly dry red, slightly astringent and provides a woody character on the palate. After some time the alcohol mellows out and overall I like this wine and I think this is a very unique Malbec from a high altitude. Will enjoy again!

Continuing in the hallmark style of Malbec from Remolinos Vineyard, this vintage shows the intense violet aromatics and bright freshness and acidity which has come to define Decero Malbec. Elegant tannin complexity similar to the 2012 reflects beautifully integrated oak tannins following 14 months in French oak. Alcohol: 14.5% pH: 3.79 Acidity: 5.62 g/l

Tasting Notes: Intense violet aromatics and red fruit flavours, the 2012 vintage shows more structural tannins than the last few vintages. The wine is exquisitely balanced by freshness of acidity and an elegant integration of French oak. Vintage: 2012 was an excellent vintage in Agrelo, again marked by low yields of high quality. The lower crop was mostly due to the influence of the formidable Zonda wind during flowering in November. In Agrelo, the climate saw higher than usual rainfall during the growing season and lower rainfall during the maturation of the bunches which provided excellent conditions for vintage. The average temperatures were slightly higher in the peak of summer but lower in April broadening the window for picking of Malbec in optimal condition. - Winery
