De Martino Single Vineyard Carmenere Alto de Piedras Case of 6 Bottles 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A bit tight but showing compelling complexity with floral, tobacco, and green peppercorn spice aromas framing the core of blue plum and black currant fruit. There's noticeable dose of oak here, but it remains buffered by the fruit. Rich with fruit tannins, this really pops on entry with bright, pure boysenberry and plum fruit layered over toasty oak spice, dried herbs and an earthy base note. There's fine power here but at the same time this remains focused and transparent with almost lacy structural component supporting everything. The oak become more apparent on the back end, but melds seamlessly with the tart blue and red fruit on the earthy, long, mineral and dark chocolate laced finish. This is lovely, really showing compelling clarity and cut while delivering excellent intensity and purity of fruit. 92pts

San Martiño Winery & Vineyards opened its doors in the spring of 2004. We are a small family-owned winery specializing in handcrafted wines using modern techniques but with a traditional “soul” borne in the fertile lands of northwestern Spain. The village of San Martiño, (see picture below), located in the mountains of the Galician region, has been making traditional wines for hundreds of years. It was at the village of San Martiño that our love and knowledge of wine and wine making techniques started. Through years of watching and helping our family in the vineyard we came to appreciate the special relationship between people, their land and the food they grow. Our Texas winery was created by borrowing from the traditions of the San Martiño village and its people, the tenacity and resolution of our family and learned modern wine-making techniques. Our heritage is rich and although we are not Texas largest winery, we aim to be the best!. Here you can watch us grow and participate with us as we travel together in this adventure because we know that without you we are not. So come by and visit with us while relaxing with a glass or bottle of one of our wines. Bring a picnic and enjoy a break from the rat race. Read less
